The Wellness-Fitness Initiative (now known as WFI) was developed by the IAFF/IAFC Fire Service Joint Labor Management Task Force to improve the health and fitness of fire/EMS personnel. In addition to updated and expanded information in the medical, fitness, rehabilitation and behavioral health chapters, the recently released 3rd edition also includes two new chapters: cost justification and implementation.

Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) 2nd edition DVD


The CPAT was developed by the IAFF/IAFC Fire Service Joint Labor Management Task Force as a fair and valid evaluation tool to assist in the selection of firefighters. CPAT components include:

  • Recruiting and mentoring qualified candidates
  • CPAT preparatory guide
  • CPAT test administration and orientation
  • The Candidate Physical Ability Test
  • The CPAT validation process
  • Legal issues
  • Steps for jurisdictions outside of the Task Force to adopt the CPAT
